A journey to a land of nature

A Natural Synergy

Organic Wine

Organic farming is the foundation of our work. It ensures respect for soil life and the environment by banning all synthetic chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, and chemical fertilizers). This guarantees healthy grapes, grown in harmony with natural cycles.

Biodynamic

Biodynamics is our tool to revitalize and structure the soil. Inspired by Alex Podolinsky’s method, this practice focuses on keen observation and the use of natural preparations (such as the famous 500 and 501) to strengthen the soil’s microbiological life—essential for the vine’s health and resilience. We work to increase humus levels and create a perfect balance between the earth and the cosmos.

Agroforestry

We restore balance to our ecosystem by reintegrating trees into the very heart of our vineyard plots—a modern adaptation of the ancestral practice known as 'joualle'. We foster a rich and diverse environment. Agroforestry (planting walnut, olive, and fruit trees) brings valuable biodiversity, stimulates underground microbial activity (mycorrhizae), and helps regulate the microclimate, giving our vines greater resilience against climate challenges.

The Impact on Vines and Soil

The move to Biodynamics, initiated in 2013, rapidly produced visible and lasting results. Our practice aims to intensify soil life, the key to vine health.

Thanks to the use of specific preparations, notably the silica-based 501we observe vines with a more upright posture. The foliage orients itself optimally to capture light, improving the plant's overall health. As for preparation 500,it acts directly on the soil. It amplifies microbiological life, promotes increased organic matter (humus), and provides lasting structure to our deep soils."

This approach, based on frequent observation and constant adaptation (spade tests), ensures improved resilience and increased vitality in our vines, laying the foundations for very high quality production.

Our Winemaking Philosophy

The philosophy of respecting life, rooted in the vineyard, naturally extends into our cellar. Our winemaking is defined by two guiding principles: care and gentleness.

"We believe that wine quality is born in the vineyard. Our work in the cellar is simply to guide the raw material—the grapes—allowing nature's work to reveal itself as naturally as possible, without artifice. This meticulous care, supported by experience and regular testing, allows us to craft sincere, elegant wines that are an authentic reflection of their origin.

Sharing and Legacy

Our conversion was strongly inspired by Aurélien's travels and his decisive meeting with Alex Podolinsky, a pioneer of the 'Australian' biodynamic method.

"We are part of a network of farmers and winemakers who openly share their knowledge and practices. This spirit of transmission and continuous adaptation  following the path of the Australian farmers of the BDAAA ensures that our methods are constantly improving. They are perfectly tailored to the specific needs of Vignoble Prouillac, rather than relying on static routine."

Agroforestry

Agroforestry represents our most visible commitment to the ecosystem and biodiversity. Inspired by the ancient 'joualle' method, we reintroduced this practice by removing two rows of vines every 30 meters to plant rows of trees in their place.

We selected a variety of species—including walnut, olive, and fruit trees—not just for diversification, but above all for the crucial role they play in the vineyard’s balance:

  • They act as climate regulators, cooling the air in the summer through evapotranspiration and helping to retain warmth in the spring to prevent late frosts.

  • They provide a habitat for beneficial biodiversity (such as blue tits and bats) that naturally protects the vines against pests.

  • Underground, they stimulate mycorrhizae and other microbial activity, enabling the vines to draw more mineral nutrients from the soil.

This deliberate synergy enables us to foster a more stable microclimate and a more resilient ecosystem.

Approach

Organic farming is our foundation: it is a commitment to health and purity by banning all synthetic chemicals. Biodynamics goes a step further: it is our proactive tool to revitalize the land. While Organic farming focuses on what we don't do (no pesticides), Biodynamics focuses on what we do to actively stimulate soil life and harmony, using natural preparations and following natural cycles.

Agroforestry is our way of restoring the ecosystem. Rows of trees—walnut, olive, and fruit trees—planted every 30 meters recreate a microclimate: they buffer the vines against climate extremes and attract beneficial biodiversity (such as birds and bats) that act as natural guardians against pests.

Biodynamics, combined with our philosophy of 'care and gentleness' in the cellar, results in grapes that are both rich and healthy. The final wine expresses greater aromatic precision, enhanced freshness, and a complexity that is a direct reflection of a living soil. Our role is simply to guide nature so that it unveils itself within the bottle.

Absolutely. Our deep soils, dominated by clay and the presence of flint, are naturally rich. Biodynamics and agroforestry optimize these qualities by structuring the soil, allowing the roots to penetrate deeper. This makes the vines much more resilient, especially when facing summer droughts.
